Position SummaryObermeyer is seeking a Merchandise Manager for our Women's product line who demonstrates strategic thinking in line planning as well as a clear understanding of the sourcing, development, and production process. The ideal candidate must be skilled in working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders - listed below - demonstrating exceptional communication and critical decision-making skills throughout the product life cycle. Must be an adaptable and transformational leader with an ability to transition from independent to collaborative work throughout the day, to work effectively in a small, fast-paced environment creatively solving for workload fluctuations.
Key Responsibilities Communication and Collaboration:-- Partner with the Director of Product Engineering to ensure a cohesive line planning strategy to determine new concepts for the seasonal product offering and to identify future growth opportunities.-- Establish and maintain a strong working dynamic with all internal and external stakeholders.-- Facilitate interdepartmental communication of logistics and planning for sales meetings, presentations, and trade shows.-- Actively engage in communication with stakeholders to achieve optimum results as well as to identify, understand and resolve business-critical issues in a collaborative, effective and result-oriented manner.Design and Concepting:-- Leverage historical performance and current business data to concept a broad assortment that balances best sellers, key items and novelty/trend offerings.-- Drive the inception of innovative designs, components, processes, materials, concepts and cutting-edge engineering techniques using market research and analysis of the competitor landscape into a manufacturable and marketable finished product.-- Lead the development and execution of strategic assortment based on a thorough knowledge of the market, brand, and business, addressing the needs of each region and channel (DTC vs. department store vs. specialty stores) while maintaining the brand DNA.-- Utilize trend studies to inform seasonal palette and print selections, adhering to calendar while communicating merchandising vision and intent to internal stakeholders at key checkpoints.-- Align activities of contract designers; build seasonal design briefs specific to margin goals ensuring that designers visualize and create within required parameters while ensuring that development and review processes adhere to strict calendar requirements.-- Translate design vision and consumer needs using trend and forecasting services, end consumers and other external stakeholders to contribute analytics which supports the internal business strategy.Development:-- Own the project management process, with an emphasis on quality product and timely completion of all tasks in accordance with the development and corporate calendars.-- Engineer prototypes that address desired function, aesthetics, market appeal, responsible manufacturability while tracking that samples and materials are fully tested through standardized channels to ensure adherence to Obermeyer's reputation for delivering the highest quality product.-- Manage style level product costing including proposing MSRP, target FOB and projected quantity by ensuring that all necessary activities take place in alignment with internal stakeholders to achieve cost targets and margin mandates.-- Ensure design information is at a level which allows and enables tech. pack creation and BOM data entry to yield optimum results in the context of the development process.Managerial:-- Establish a team-based culture where effective collaboration and identification with team are key.-- Set objectives and evaluate the competencies and job performance of direct reports on a regular basis with regard to performance and potential.-- Allocate project work taking into consideration experience, product complexity and workload.-- Actively mentor and support the career development of direct reports to ensure job satisfaction, retention and to further their growth in all aspects of the professional content of their role.-- Provide input to the Director of Product Engineering on areas of concern within team and identify opportunities for improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities-- Proven ability to lead and influence in a collaborative, cross-functional group to meet strategic objectives.-- Excellent social skills that inspire and build trust resulting in effective working relationships.-- Ability to anticipate how decisions made can affect our customers, partners, products or other departments' operations; "connecting the dots."-- Strong analytical ability demonstrating a detailed and extensive expertise and application of business development principles and concepts.-- Excellent project management skills with the proven success of building action plans and leading teams to execute against them across complex projects & multiple functions-- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an advanced ability to communicate new ideas, concepts and functional expertise within project teams and to stakeholders.-- Demonstrate innovation and initiative - Curious and open minded: always open for a challenge. Ability to challenge the status quo - always looking at improving our products and processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details.-- Business systems and design software experience.
Qualifications-- Bachelors' degree in Merchandising, Product Marketing, Design Research or equivalent is beneficial but not necessary-- 5+ successful years of experience leading the creation of cutting edge, high-performance products, innovative technology projects or services in the outdoor apparel industry. Product Management, Development or Design experience preferred.-- Proven record of accomplishment in the field of outdoor apparel
