Job Description:

This is a PRN position and requires someone with previous ICU / critical care experience.Provides professional nursing care in accordance with known/accepted standards of practice and AVH policy. Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Works in support of the medical staff treatment plan and makes recommendations for changes to medical treatment plan as appropriate. Educates patients and family around the plan of care and disease management. Actively supports the nursing philosophy by striving for excellence in patient care, professional development, interpersonal relations, time management, and continuous quality improvement.NURSING PROCESS AND CLINICAL PRACTICE SKILLSFully competent in primary nurse role on unit; performs patient and family assessment & problem identification, plans care accordingly, implements and evaluates plan of care so that problems are resolved.Develops a problem based plan of care for every patient with appropriate nursing interventionsRecords pertinent clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and hospital policy.Prioritizes patient situations and takes appropriate action in an efficient, effective mannerResponds to clinical needs of patients in accord with experience, nursing standards, and hospital/nursing policies and procedures.Makes value-added resource decisions for patient care with respect to supplies, equipment, and acuity of carePATIENT TEACHINGProvides individualized patient and family education consistent with patient's learning style, readiness to learn and self care needsEvaluated the effectiveness of patient learningCARE COORDINATIONCoordinates with all members of the hospital team in order to address patient care, resolve problems, and improve the delivery of multidisciplinary care on a daily basisApplies individual and group problem solving; shares knowledge with others freely, consults openly, and assists others to interpret dataUses verbal and written communication methods effectivelyProvides input into refinement of nursing care plans developed by othersPATIENT SAFETY & CONFIDENTIALITYAdheres reliably to all accepted patient safety standardsIdentifies and promotes new learning around changing patient safety standards of practiceServes in advocacy role; encouraging active involvement of patient and family in their careFollows all security, confidentiality, and privacy policiesPROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & INTEGRATIONDevelops professional goals and diversity of responsibilities within nursing practice; consistent with hospital mission and goalsDemonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department specific continuing education that improves patient care or professional practice: suggestions is CEUs meet AACN category A criteria, such as cardiac care, ECG, heart failure, respiratory care, acute lung injury, ventilator management, pharmacology, pathophysiology, and FCCSAble to express nursing values around patient/family centered care and assists others to achieve shared understandingActive participant in quality improvement processesIdentifies need to seek out additional information when needed and apply relevant findings to nursing practiceLEADERSHIPDemonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional decision makingParticipates and contributes to unit meetings and activitiesActs as a relief charge nurse when assignedVII. UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESProficient in the care of critically ill patients; willingness to assist in the care of critically ill patients in all areas of the hospitalMaintain current competency in critical care skillsMaintain proficiency in the care of the medical surgical patient with emphasis on orthopedic and general surgeriesMaintain competency in the care of the pediatric patientMaintains arrhythmia interpretation skills; ability to determine EKG changes requiring immediate interventionsAbility to begin resuscitation efforts in adults and pediatric patients and continue as team leader until relieved by a physicianMaintain Level II to ER. PALS3.TNCC within 2 years of hire4.FCCS within 2 years of hire5.PFCCS within 2 years of hire* Our hire-in rates of pay are based on years of relevant experience. Listed below are our hire-in rates for the position, which includes: minimum pay (no relevant experience) and mid-point (12 or more years).Minimum = $34.28/hrMid-Point = $44.56/hr
