Job Overview:

The Charge Entry Auditor is responsible for performing daily charge capture for the Perioperative Services Department. Duties include resolving errors identified related to charge capture practices, payer requirements, missing charges as well as system errors that could cause cost and collection delays. Under the supervision of the Perioperative Services Director, this position maintains and supports the integrity of Aspen Valley Hospital District's Revenue Cycle specific applications, their processes, reporting and associated programs for continuity, standardization and the specific needs of regulatory requirements dedicated to the Revenue Cycle. This position works closely with the OR clinical team, Materials Management team, Billing, HIMS, external vendors and others involved with the Perioperative Services Clinical Team and Revenue Cycle Team.

Primary Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Reviews all charges generated from clinical staff documentation and preference card data in each surgical patient's Epic chart for all surgical procedures performed in the AVH Perioperative Department to ensure proper and compliant billing while following standards set forth by government entities and current health information classification systems. Review of documentation to support charges will physician operative reports, nursing notes, implant logs, and other documentation as needed.
  • Assists with discovery, data collection, and analysis of errors within patient accounts/records, and possesses the ability to query providers and clinical staff in order to facilitate corrections and ensure efficient billing practices.
  • Review and respond to various quality reports, including reports that identify missing or duplicate charges.
  • Manages time effectively to meet all required deadlines all while possessing excellent analytical and problem-solving skills independently
  • Participates in billing related educational programs and in workflow meetings to facilitate proper billing of chargeable surgical products
  • Strong understanding of computer technology and the capability to Epic software and reference books on a routine basis
  • Adheres to federal, state and hospital rules and regulations concerning HIPAA privacy and security
  • Exhibits the ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
  • Follows Hospital compliance plan and policies, including the Code of Conduct
  • Demonstrates purposeful service excellence through exceeding patient and co-worker expectations
  • Participates in required training for compliance related activities (HIPAA, Compliance, Patient Safety, TJC, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

    • High School diploma, or GED required; associates degree preferred
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, familiarity with medications, abbreviations preferred
    • Knowledge of surgical procedures and the supplies utilized in surgical procedures preferred
    • Basic knowledge of the supply chain process is preferred
    • High degree of analytical abilities and strong attention to detail
    • Must be proficient in MS Office applications which include Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
    • Experience with Epic preferred

      Pay range for new hires: $25.27 - $32.84/hr
