ski resorts at your doorstep.Job Overview: Provides professional
nursing care in accordance with known/accepted standards of
practice and AVH policy. Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess,
plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Works in support of the
medical staff treatment plan and makes recommendations for changes
to medical treatment plan as appropriate. Educates patients and
family around the plan of care and disease management. Actively
supports the nursing philosophy by striving for excellence in
patient care, professional development, interpersonal relations,
time management, and continuous quality improvement.Primary Scope
of Responsibilities:
- Fully competent in the primary nurse role on unit; performs
patient and family assessment and problem identification, plans
care accordingly; implements and evaluates plan of care so that
problems are resolved.
- Maintain competency in the care of the trauma, neuro, OB/GYN,
ENT, Pre-Op surgical, wound care, lacerations, orthopedic patient
populations from basic nursing to critical care level for varying
acuity seen in ER patient population.
- Stabilize Behavioral Health patient and follow required
guidelines and documentation of their care and restraints as per
physician orders.
- Maintain competency in care of infectious disease patients and
all isolation and PPE requirements based on initial assessment and
then laboratory diagnostic testing results.
- Maintain competency in the care of the pediatric patient from
basic nursing care to critical care level based on patient acuity
in the ER.
- Maintain competency in the care of the patient requiring
telemetry monitoring.
- Knowledgeable of all requirements for patient transfers out of
facility and EMTALA compliance.
- Maintain competency in splinting for all extremities.
- Maintains competency for procedural sedation.
- Clinical Skills: Demonstrates Emergency Nursing Skills in
compliance with AVH policy, JCAHO, CMS, CAH Standards and National
Patient Safety Goals. These skills include a professional
introduction, timely triage, compassionate care, complete and
accurate documentation, medication safety, appropriate and timely
reassessment, a team approach to communicating patient's care and
change of status, and timely communication with other departments
and House Supervisor for admissions or continuum of care.
- Technical Skills: Demonstrates competency and knowledge of
equipment and basic to critical care level nursing procedures,
including but not limited to arterial lines, reboa, blood mass
transfusions, ACLS level resuscitation, chest tubes, multiple IV
line management to stabilize hemodynamics of critical patient,
stroke care, cardiac cardioversion commonly performed in the ED and
Trauma Room. Maintains all required certifications.
- Departmental Responsibilities: Actively participates in
department meetings with attendance of 80% or better. Completes
five chart audits per month. Monitors equipment status and
identifies need for repairs. Stocking and supply assessment as part
of daily shifts. Reads and responds appropriately to departmental
emails and postings. Maintains awareness of AVATAR patient
satisfaction improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department
specific continuing education that improves patient care or
professional practice. Areas of focus should include but are not
limited to: orthopedic trauma management including splinting, wound
care, procedural sedation, trauma patient management, high altitude
related illness, head injury assessment and management, pain
management, stroke assessment and management, chest pain and
cardiac arrest management. Participates in Annual ER Winter
Workshop and AVH Skills Fair.Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Licensed RN
- 1-2 years of Emergency Nursing Experience
preferredEducation/License/Certification Requirements:
- ADN required / BSN preferred
- Required:
- BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification
- PALS Certification or ENPC required on hire
- TNCC within two years of hire
- ENPC or PALS encouraged (whichever does not have upon
hire)

based upon the relevance of years of experience, education and
