Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Works in support of the medical staff treatment plan and makes recommendations for changes to medical treatment plan as appropriate. Educates patients and family around the plan of care and disease management. Actively supports the nursing philosophy by striving for excellence in patient care, professional development, interpersonal relations, time management, and continuous quality improvement.Primary Scope of Responsibilities:

  • Performs patient and family assessment and problem identification, plans care accordingly; implements and evaluates plan of care so that problems are resolved.
  • Maintain competency in the care of the trauma, neuro, OB/GYN, ENT, Pre-Op surgical, wound care, lacerations, orthopedic, post op surgical, critical care patient populations from basic nursing to critical care.
  • Stabilize Behavioral Health patient and follow required guidelines and documentation of their care and restraints as per physician orders.
  • Maintain competency in care of infectious disease patients and all isolation and PPE requirements based on initial assessment and then laboratory diagnostic testing results.
  • Maintain competency in the care of the pediatric patient from basic nursing care to critical care level.
  • Maintain competency in the care of the patient requiring telemetry monitoring including but not limited to arrhythmia interpretation skills; ability to determine EKG changes requiring immediate interventions.
  • Knowledgeable of all requirements for patient transfers out of facility and EMTALA compliance.
  • Maintains competency for procedural sedation.
  • Clinical Skills: Demonstrates Emergency, Critical Care, General Med/Surg, Pre-Surgery, and Post Op Anesthesia Recovery Nursing Skills in compliance with AVH policy, JCAHO, CMS, CAH Standards and National Patient Safety Goals. These skills include but are not limited to a professional introduction, timely triage, compassionate care, complete and accurate documentation, medication safety, appropriate and timely reassessment, patient education, incorporate a team approach to improve the delivery of multidisciplinary care on a daily basis including admissions, change of status and discharge.
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrates competency and knowledge of equipment from basic to critical care level nursing procedures, including but not limited to arterial lines, reboa, blood mass transfusions, ACLS, chest tubes, multiple IV-line management to stabilize hemodynamics of critical patient, stroke care, ventilator management, arrhythmia interpretation skill and intervention, cardiac cardioversion and maintain proficiency in the care of medical surgical patients with an emphasis on orthopedic and general surgeries.
  • Departmental Responsibilities: Actively participates in department meetings with attendance of 80% or better. Monitors equipment status and identifies need for repairs. Stocking and supply assessment as part of daily shifts in all patient care areas. Reads and responds appropriately to departmental emails and postings. Maintains awareness of AVATAR patient satisfaction improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department specific continuing education that improves patient care or professional practice. Areas of focus should include but are not limited to: orthopedic trauma management including splinting, wound care, procedural sedation, trauma patient management, high altitude related illness, head injury assessment and management, pain management, stroke assessment and management, chest pain and cardiac arrest management, pre-op, post anesthesia recovery.
  • Demonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department specific continuing education that improves patient care or professional practice: suggestions are CEUs meet AACN category A criteria, such as cardiac care, ECG, heart failure, respiratory care, acute lung injury, ventilator management, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.Minimum Qualifications:
    • Current Colorado or Compact State Registered Nursing License
    • 2 years of critical and acute care experience combinedEducation/License/Certification Requirements:
      • Associates Degree in Nursing; BSN Preferred
      • Required:
        • BLS Certification
        • ACLS Certification
        • PALS Certification
        • TNCC within two years of hire
        • Encouraged:
          • PFCCS Certification
          • FCCS Certification
