Pay Range: $34.00 / hr
Night and weekend shift differentials up to $6.00/hr.
Hire-in rates of pay are based upon the relevance of years of

Job Overview:
With support of the nurse preceptor and mentor, provides direct
patient care using the nursing process in accordance with
applicable scope and standards of practice and with AVH policies,
values, and mission. Works in support of the medical staff
treatment plan. Educates patients and family around the plan of
care and disease management. Actively supports the nursing
philosophy by striving for excellence in patient care, professional
development, interpersonal relations, time management, and
continuous quality improvement.
Primary Scope of Responsibilities:
- Works with the identified preceptor and mentor to advance
toward the goal of becoming a competent professional nurse with an
emphasis on developing the core competencies of the rural nursing
professional.
- Attends required didactic and lab courses as outlined in the
new graduate nurse residency program.
- With support of the nurse preceptor and mentor, performs
patient and family assessment, identifies problems, plans care
accordingly, and implements and evaluates plan of care so that
problems are resolved and outcomes are optimized. Effectively
delegates patient care to ancillary personnel.
- With support of the nurse preceptor and mentor, monitors and
communicates patient condition as appropriate. Collaborates as
needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including
patient transfer, discharge, referral, and psychosocial support
needs.
- Records clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory
requirements, professional standards, and hospital policy.
- With support of the nurse preceptor and mentor, evaluates
learning needs of patients and family and provides education
consistent with patient's learning style and appropriate to age,
culture, condition, and circumstances. Evaluates the effectiveness
of patient/family learning.
- Makes value-added resource decisions for patient care with
respect to supplies and equipment.
- Adheres reliably to all accepted patient safety standards.
- Serves in an advocacy role; encouraging active involvement of
patient and family in their care.
- Develops professional goals within nursing practice consistent
with hospital mission and goals.
- Demonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department
specific continuing education that improves patient care or
professional practice.
- Able to express nursing values around patient/family-centered
care.
- Active participant in quality improvement processes.
- Identifies need to seek out additional information when needed
and applies relevant findings to nursing practice.
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own
professional decision-making.
- Ability to begin resuscitation efforts in accordance with BLS
guidelines until relived by a physician/critical care nurse.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to concentrate and show attention to detail
- Relatively high degree of analytical abilities
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and meet objectives despite
constraints
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required. BSN preferred.
- Less than one year since graduation from an accredited nursing
program in the U.S.
- Seeking first nursing practice role since graduation
- Current, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in
Colorado
- BLS certification
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Experience with Epic preferred
- 2-year commitment to full-time employment as an RN at AVH
following completion of the program
Working Conditions
- Normal patient care environment with little exposure to
excessive noise, dust and temperature
- May be exposed to communicable diseases through normal or
careless performance of responsibilities
- May be exposed to mechanical dangers associated with mechanical
devices
- May be exposed to stressful situations

nursing instructors.
3. Attach a written statement that includes:
- Description of why you have chosen to apply to the AVH New
Graduate Nurse Residency Program.
- Description of how clinical rotations and/or professional work
experience has prepared you for success in the clinical nursing
role.
- Identify the top two preference departments and what attributes
you possess that would be of value to each department.
