The Pain Clinic RN provides professional nursing care in accordance with known/accepted standards of practice and AVH policy. Utilizes the Nursing Process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care. Works in support of the medical treatment plan and makes recommendations for changes to medical treatment plan as appropriate. Educates patients and family around the plan of care and disease management. Actively supports the nursing philosophy by striving for excellence in patient care, professional development, interpersonal relations, time management, and continuous quality improvement. The Pain Clinic assists with the daily operations of the clinic including: patient care and education, triaging telephone calls, preparing patients for procedures and assisting MD during procedures; assisting with scheduling, accurate charging of procedures, preparing and maintaining medical records for the patients. Continuously provides a clean, safe, well stocked department.
RN ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 50% I NURSING PROCESS AND CLINICAL PRACTICE SKILLS Fully competent in primary nurse role in the Pain Clinic; performs patient and family assessment & problem identification, plans care accordingly, implements and evaluates plan of care so that problems are resolved. Records pertinent clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, professional standards and hospital policy and scans documents appropriately. In the Pain Clinic, documentation includes the face sheet, medication reconciliation, patient summary after the 3rd visit, patient assessment, medication refill, samples documentation, patient education, and QHN as applicable. Prioritizes patient situations and takes appropriate action in an efficient, effective manner Responds to clinical needs of patients in accord with experience, nursing standards, and hospital/nursing policies and procedures. Makes value-added resource decisions for patient care with respect to supplies, equipment, and acuity of care II PATIENT TEACHING Provides individualized patient and family education consistent with patient's learning style, readiness to learn and self care needs Evaluates the effectiveness of patient learning III CARE COORDINATION Communicates and collaborates with all members of the hospital team in order to address patient care, resolve problems, and improve the delivery of multidisciplinary care on a daily basis and facilitate work flow in the clinic. Applies individual and group problem solving; shares knowledge with others freely, consults openly, and assists others to interpret data Uses verbal and written communication methods effectively. IV PATIENT SAFETY &CONFIDENTIALITY Adheres reliably to all accepted patient safety standards and assists in maintaining a clean, safe, organized environment of care. Identifies and promotes new learning around changing patient safety standards of practice Serves in advocacy role; encouraging active involvement of patient and family in their care Follows all security, confidentiality, and privacy policies. V PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & INTEGRATION Develops professional goals and diversity of responsibilities within nursing practice consistent with hospital mission and goals. Demonstrates role awareness and seeks individualized/department specific continuing education that improves patient care or professional practice. Department specific areas of focused learning may include any pain management related topic including diagnoses, drug addiction, sterile technique, medications, and customer service. Able to express nursing values around patient/family centered care and assists others to achieve shared understanding Active participant in quality improvement processes Identifies need to seek out additional information when needed and apply relevant findings to nursing practice VI LEADERSHIP Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional decision making Participates and contributes to unit meetings and activities Solves problems in clinic UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES VII UNIT SKILL OR DUTIES: Demonstrates competency in all aspects of patient care including: assisting physician with procedures while demonstrating knowledge and competency in procedure set up, sterile process, and decontamination and universal precautions; providing patient education and discharge instructions; triaging phone calls; and follow up patient care management, and accurately charging for patient visits/procedures. Provides for continuity of care through scheduling, physician office communication, and patient communication/education/follow up. Medication Management: Follows through on patient requests for medication refills/renewals - obtains orders as needed and refills prescriptions according to department policy. Provides sample medications as directed by the Pain Clinic Medical Director. Maintains medication sample in/out logs. Reviews medication sample closet and disposes of expired medications as needed. Assists with receptionist/scheduling duties as needed including preparing medical records and filing. Other duties as assigned. -- ASN required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
-- 2 years of ER/Critical Care/ OR or pain clinic experience preferred.
-- Registered Nurse, licensed in the state of Colorado
