My Email Job Description The Aspen School District seeks an Elementary School Principal. Position Title: Elementary School Principal Department: Aspen Elementary School Reports to: Superintendent of Schools Classification: Full-time Exempt Contract Period: Administrative (233 days with some variance depending on the year) Salary Range: $95,000 - $120,000 I.Position Summary The Elementary School Principal will lead students, staff, and the school community to fulfill the vision and mission of the school, in order to maximize academic growth/achievement and promote social/emotional student well-being. II: Essential Duties and Responsibilities Meet with members of the school and community to collaboratively develop the vision, mission, values, beliefs, and goals of the school by determining the processes used to establish these attributes, and facilitate their integration into the life of the school community. Ensure that the unified improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals, and changes necessary for improved achievement and developmental outcomes for all students, and provides for tracking progress based on data. Develop implementation strategies collaboratively for review of and changes to the school's mission and vision to continually result in improved achievement and developmental outcomes for all students. Articulate and model a clear vision of the school's culture, and involve students, families, and staff in creating a climate that supports it. Place children at the center of education and accept responsibility for student's academic success and well-being. Act ethically and professionally in personal conduct and within complexity of human interactions and relationships, including those among and between parents/guardians, students, and staff. Value the cognitive, physical, mental, social, and emotional health and growth of every student, safeguarding and promoting equity and diversity. Evaluate staff performances using the district's educator effectiveness system in order to ensure that teachers and other staff are evaluated in a fair and equitable manner with a focus on improving performance, and thus, student achievement. Develop and support open, productive, caring, and trusting working relationships among administrators, teachers, and other staff members to promote professional capacity and the improvement of practice. Ensure each student has equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support, and other resources necessary for success. Enable school-wide conversations about standards for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data on student learning based on research and best practices, and ensure that the ideas developed are integrated within and across grade levels in the school's curriculum and instructional approaches. Hold all staff accountable for instructional practice that is intellectually challenging, authentic to student experience, recognizes student strengths, and is differentiated. III: Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Promote the effective use of technology in the service of teaching and learning Demonstrate a commitment to a diverse population of students by creating an inclusive and celebratory school culture, and provide direction in meeting the range of learning needs of each student Foster a school culture that encourages continual improvement through innovation, risk-taking, and an honest assessment of outcomes. Promote adult-student, student-peer, and school community relationships that value and support academic learning and positive social and emotional development. Ensure that the school is a professional learning community that provides opportunities for collaboration, fosters teacher learning, provides collegial feedback, and develops teacher leaders in a manner that is consistent with policies and strategic plans. Create and utilize processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school. Create processes and schedules which maximize instructional, collaborative, and preparation time. Support teachers through feedback and appropriate professional development in order to ensure that rigorous, relevant, and appropriate instruction and learning experiences are delivered to and for all students. Maintain a presence in the community to understand its strengths and needs, develop productive relationships, and engage its resources for the school. Create and sustain positive, collaborative, and productive relationships with families and the community for the benefit of students. Design structures and processes which result in family and community engagement, support, and ownership of the school. Facilitate the design and utilization of various forms of formal and informal communication with all school stakeholders to promote school improvement and student learning. Familiarize himself/herself with state and federal laws, and district and board policies, including negotiated agreements, and establish processes to ensure they are consistently met. Strive to improve the profession by collaborating with his/her colleagues, district leadership, and other stakeholders to drive development and successful implementation of initiatives that better serve students, teachers, and schools at all levels of the education system. Assess and develop the capacity of staff to access the value and applicability of emerging educational trends and findings of research for the school and its improvement Employ situationally-appropriate strategies for improvement, including transformational and incremental, adaptive approaches and attention to different phases of implementation Manage uncertainty, risk, competing initiatives, and politics of change providing support and encouragement, and openly communicating the need for, process for, and outcomes of improvement efforts. IV: Minimum Qualifications Possess or be able to obtain an initial or professional principal's license within the first 3 months of hire; Hold a master's degree with emphasis in education, curriculum, instruction, leadership and/or administration. V: Preferred Qualifications Well-developed leadership skills in the areas of curriculum and instruction, supervision, human relations and management are essential to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. The Assistant Principal develops and promotes strong community relations among community and school clientele. Candidates must: Demonstrated success inschool administration. Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher. Demonstrated ability to inspire vision, motivate excellence in instruction, and model service-oriented administration. Demonstrated commitment to high achievement for all students. Demonstrated ability to forge and foster strong internal and external relationships. Office environment; exposure to computer screens Mostly clean and comfortable surroundings VII: Essential Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, stoop, kneel, climb, and crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to rise from a seated position; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally, balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
