Job Description:
Job DescriptionPOSITION PURPOSEProvides RFTA transit schedule
information and assistance to the public. Sells passes and
maintains related records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES1.Sells RFTA Stored Value Cards, Monthly Passes,
and Maroon Bells/Gondola tickets on a seasonal basis. Provides RFTA
customers with replacements when needed. 2.Provides information in
person at the transportation center and over the telephone to the
public regarding service areas, schedules, routes, and special
event transportation.3.Serves as initial, primary face-to-face
contact person at RFTA's downtown Aspen bus station, by responding
to customers' inquiries regarding general bus
information.4.Receives and resolves complaints according to
established procedures or refers to appropriate
personnel.5.Monitors radio traffic, responds to and relays driver
requests for information; provides hourly time checks and location
information as needed.6.Receives and catalogs Lost and Found items
from RFTA customers and drivers.7.Responsible for financial
transactions including making change for customers, processing
purchases by cash or credit card and reconciling cash box at the
end of each shift. 8.Stays current on all transit programs,
schedules, routes and fare structures.OTHER DUTIESCompletes other
duties as assigned by supervisors or managers.JOB
SPECIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESExpert knowledge of
routes and servicesExpert ability to efficiently and accurately
operate cash registerExpert customer service skills Solid ability
to communicate, understand, read and write in EnglishSolid
knowledge of the geography of the City of Aspen, the Roaring Fork
Valley, and I-70 Corridor extending to Rife and/or Parachute. Solid
conflict resolution skills and ability to properly assist confused
and/or angry customersSolid judgment and clear reasoning ability to
independently solve problemsBasic bookkeeping and retail knowledge
and skills
QUALIFICATIONSEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent or any
combination of education and experience which would provide the
applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to perform
the job is required.ExperienceOne (1) year of customer service
experience in a high volume environment preferred, or an equivalent
or any combination of education and experience which would provide
the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability to
perform the job is required.
ON-THE-JOB TRAININGLess than three (3) months of on-the-job
training is normally required to perform the job effectively.
EQUIPMENT UTILIZEDSimple office equipment (e.g., telephone, fax
machine, copier) are utilized. Cash register, credit card machine,
PEM, and two-way radio are also utilized.SOFTWARE UTILIZEDBasic
computer software familiarity helpful.
SCOPE OF AUTHORITYDefined procedures cover most duties. Generally,
incumbent is expected to deal with different and specialized
situations. Work is monitored continually. Daily schedules and
priorities are established by the Transportation Supervisor and
Dispatcher on Duty.Available established practices and written

Guide•Weekly Operations MemosFINANCIAL AUTHORITYThis position is
responsible for selling punch passes, tokens, tickets, making
change and daily cash balancing, including a cash drawer of up to
$600.
COMMUNICATIONInternalDaily contact with Supervisor and Dispatcher
in person and by two-way radio to report for duty, receive
instructions and solve problems. Daily contact with bus drivers to
provide information. Contact as needed with the Operations Managers
and Directors by telephone, in writing and in person to answer
questions. ExternalPersonal daily contact with the general public
to provide information. Contact as needed with police in person and
in writing to provide information regarding accidents or unusual
occurrences.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYNo supervisory responsibility
is required for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONSModerate physical activity required by handling
objects up to fifty pounds occasionally and/or up to twenty pounds
frequently. Works late night shift with public contact. This
position works a flex-schedule alternating between three and four
days per week for a total of seven 10-hour days per bi-weekly pay
period. There are typically four clerks working the following
schedules, to be chosen based on
seniority:•Sunday-Wednesday/Sunday-Tuesday morning: 6:30am to
4:30pm•Sunday-Wednesday/Sunday-Tuesday evening: 4:15pm to
2:15am•Wednesday-Saturday/Thursday-Saturday morning: 6:30am to
4:30pm•Wednesday-Saturday/Thursday-Saturday evening: 4:15pm to
2:15am
