Title: Field Supervisor (Youth)Reports to: Youth Program ManagerLocation: Salida, COStatus: Seasonal, Full-time, ExemptWages: $735-785/week DOEBenefits: TBDStart/end date: March 21st - August 20th, 2022Program Summary:The Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a program of the non-profit service organization, Conservation Legacy, that is built on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that operated from 1933 - 1942. SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects on public lands. While serving with SCC, members receive training on job skills, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. Programs are developed using a step ladder approach to provide a progression of skill development based on a member's needs. Members receive a weekly living allowance, training, and an AmeriCorps Education Award (for qualifying individuals). The SCC Los Valles office is located on the ancestral lands of the Ute people, in Salida, Colorado, and serves the Arkansas River Valley and the San Luis Valley: the two valleys, or los valles. SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects on public lands. The Youth Field Supervisor will play a key intermediary role between the San Luis Valley and the Salida office. The primary function of the Youth Field Supervisor is to provide field and administrative support for the high school summer crews by offering technical assistance and moral support, as well as ensuring program integrity through policy enforcement and positive mentoring. The Field Supervisor will also assist with Corpsmember interviews and selection, program logistics, and planning and facilitating staff trainings, with a focus on inclusive and equitable practices. During the spring season, the field supervisor will be in the field, supporting crew leader training, as well as in local schools, helping to recruit and select high school members. During the summer field season, the field supervisor will primarily be in the field with crews, providing technical and behavior management support, supporting logistics, collecting paperwork, and meeting with project partners to ensure quality work is being completed. Essential Responsibilities and Functions: Training: + Assist in the development and implementation of crew leader trainings including technical trails training, chainsaw training, SCC procedures and protocols, and leadership and facilitation+ Provide a consistent staff presence in the field during crew leader training while implementing inclusive trainings, mentoring CLs and CLDPs, setting program expectations, and building strong rapport with CLs and CLDPsField Support: + Dedicate a majority of the field season to supporting crews in the San Luis Valley, conducting regular visits to high school crews, project partners, and work sites+ Enforce all SCC and agency policies and procedures+ Oversee project management in front-country and remote working locations+ Communicate and debrief with crew leaders and corps members during field visits, manage on-the-ground project quality, providing technical assistance as needed+ Model appropriate boundary setting, as well as provide encouragement, guidance, and supervision to crew leaders throughout their tenure+ Provide support for remote rig up and derig at remote youth trailer in Alamosa+ Facilitate educational activities for youth crews+ Fill in for vacant crew leader positions as necessary. Risk Management: + Respond to and provide field support during crew emergencies+ Adapt to a dynamic work environment that requires ready availability for trips into the field and an ever-shifting work scheduleRecruitment, General Administration and Partnerships: + Assist with recruitment and selection of local high school members, including visits to schools, community partners, etc. for recruitment/outreach events and interviewing applicants+ Assist in management of all new hire and additional member paperworkLogistics Support: + Supervise crew rig-up and de-rig processes and manage the remote youth trailer in Alamosa+ Assist with repair or replacement of tools, saws, vehicles or other equipment+ Obtain additional tools and specialized equipment necessary for upcoming youth projects+ Maintain inventories of tool maintenance kits, cleaning supplies, and other field equipment, and make necessary purchases to restock these inventories at Alamosa youth trailer+ Track crew vehicle mileages and transport vehicles to/from mechanic for oil changes and other repairs+ Assist crews with vehicle emergencies in the field+ Assist with facilities repair and maintenance+ Trouble shoot logistics challenges from a remote locationPhysical Requirements: Conservation Legacy is committed to the full inclusion of all qualified individuals and will ensure that persons with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations to perform essential job functions.
