Job Summary: Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides clerical support for assigned nursing unit.# Transcribes physician#s orders, schedules diagnostic tests, surgery, and therapies for patients; assembles, maintains, and disassembles patient charts; answers telephone and patient intercom calls; providing routine, approved information and relaying other calls and messages.# Communicates and coordinates in a knowledgeable and courteous manner with others.# Maintains confidentiality of patients, medical staff and other employees.# Supports the image of the hospital and medical staff within the hospital and the community. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 50% I ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES # # Functions as a hub of flow and communication for the emergency department for our staff, patients, visitors, consulting physicians and other AVH departments. # # Provides clerical support for ED:# transcribes physician orders, schedules diagnostic tests, surgery, and therapies for patients.# # # Assembles, maintains, and disassembles patient charts, and maintains ER logbook accurately and legibly.# Files lab or diagnostic results to charts in a timely fashion. # # In a professional fashion, answers telephone and patient intercom calls.# Provides routine, approved information via telephone as needed.# Contacts consulting physicians per MD request (for patient consultation, transfer, etc#) # II SERVICE EXCELLENCE/CUSTOMER SERVICE # # Communicates with kindness and professionalism to patients, visitors and families in the ER or on the telephone. # # Communicates well with various hospital departments and nursing units. # III PATIENT SAFETY # CONFIDENTIALITY # # Adheres reliably to all accepted patient safety standards # # Identifies and promotes new learning around changing patient safety standards of practice # # Follows all security, confidentiality, and privacy policies # IV UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES # RESPONSIBILITIES / DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS # # Performs clerical support and administrative duties as needed or requested in a timely manner; this includes ordering of clerical or departmental supplies, submitting departmental work orders and other unit specific needs. # # Promptly answers calls from patient triage area and immediately notifies nurse, tech or ambulance personnel. # # Is familiar with PageGate paging system to page medical or administrative support as needed. Understands various group pages. # # Notifies appropriate personnel and departments of an impending surgery or patient admission. # # Copies and assembles patient charts to accompany transfer patients to receiving facility. Provides EMTALA forms to ER MD for completion prior to transfer. # # Communicates drills or overhead page alerts clearly and efficiently as directed. # # Cooperates in training new departmental employees on basic ER Meditech functions. # # Daily pickup and distribution of emergency department mail. # # Actively participates in department meetings with attendance of 80% or better.## Read and respond appropriately to departmental email and postings.# Maintains awareness of AVATAR patient satisfaction improvement initiatives. # V LEADERSHIP # # Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional decision making # # Participates and contributes to unit meetings and activities # # # # POPULATION SPECIFIC CRITERIA N/R # Ensures developmentally and medically appropriate care for all patient populations and age groups. # VII CORE VALUES 50% # Patient Centered:is passionate about patient care, creating positive impressions on a consistent basis and exceeding our patients# expectations.
