Aspen Middle School seeks a Principal to begin duties in July 2019. Position Summary: The Aspen Middle School Principal is first an instructional leader to her/his staff and second an educational leader with excellent organizational, managerial, and communicative skills and the ability to develop good public and personnel relations. The principal's background in curriculum alignment, instructional supervision and evaluation processes, and commitment to quality education inspires vision and motivates excellence in instruction to achieve success for all students. Immediate Supervisor: Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent Terms of Employment: 12-month, exempt employee Job Requirements:* Hold a Master's degree in Education (Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, or Leadership)* Possess or be able to obtain a Colorado Initial or Professional Principal's or Administrator's License within the first 3 months of hire.* Demonstrated success as a school level administrator preferred.* Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher preferred. Qualifications:* Demonstrated ability to inspire vision, motivate excellence in instruction, and model service-oriented administration.* Commitment to high achievement for all students.* Demonstrated skills for organizing, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating programs, services, and staff.* Knowledge of Career and College Readiness standards along with Colorado Standards, Common Core, State Testing, and implications for best practices in instruction.* Knowledge and understanding of the recruitment and hiring processes and ability to work with Human Resources to ensure that the hiring of all staff is in compliance with local policies and procedures and state statute.* Desirable personal qualifications include strong communication skills, and the ability to develop good public and personnel relations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Develop collaboratively the vision, mission, values, beliefs, and goals of the school by determining the processes used to establish these attributes, and facilitate their integration into the life of the middle school community and the Aspen/Roaring Fork valley community.* Ensure the smooth and effective functioning of the school by leveraging the unique position of the principal to liaise between the central office and other schools in the district to inform policies and procedures to ensure they are efficient and effective, to advocate for and inform the coherence of an organizational vision with policies and strategies to support the school and student learning, and to assist the district in ensuring that the community of schools on this small campus with which the principal engages are culturally/socially responsive.* Ensure that the unified improvement plan provides the structure for the vision, values, goals, and changes necessary for improved achievement and developmental outcomes for all students, and provides for tracking progress based on data.* Develop collaboratively a vision and implementation strategies for improvements and changes which result in improved achievement and developmental outcomes for all students.* Create and utilize processes to distribute leadership and decision making throughout the school.* Enable school-wide conversations about standards for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and data on student learning based on research and best practices, and ensure that the ideas developed are integrated into the school's curriculum and instructional approaches.* Create processes and schedules which maximize instructional, collaborative, and preparation time.* Support teachers through feedback and appropriate professional development in order to ensure that rigorous, relevant, and appropriate instruction and learning experiences, aligned with P-16, are delivered to and for all students.* Hold all staff accountable for setting and achieving rigorous performance goals for all students, and empower staff to achieve these ambitious student outcomes.* Articulate and model a clear vision of the school's culture, and involve students, families, and staff in creating a climate that supports it.* Value the cognitive, physical, mental, social, and emotional health and growth of every student.* Demonstrate a commitment to a diverse population of students by creating an inclusive and celebratory school culture, and provide direction in meeting the needs of diverse student talents, experiences, and challenges.* Foster a school culture that encourages continual improvement through innovation, risk-taking, and an honest assessment of outcomes.* Ensure that the school is a professional learning community that provides opportunities for collaboration, fosters teacher learning, and develops teacher leaders in a manner that is consistent with local structures, contracts, policies, and strategic plans.* Establish and effectively manage processes and systems that ensure a high-quality, high-performing staff, including an overall count and percentage of effective teachers that reflect that school's improvement priorities.* Evaluate staff performances using the district's educator effectiveness system in order to ensure that teachers and other staff are evaluated in a fair and equitable manner with a focus on improving performance, and thus, student achievement.* Establish systems for marshaling all available school resources to facilitate the work that needs to be done to improve student learning, achievement, and healthy development for all students.* Manage effectively and efficiently the complexity of human interactions and relationships, including those among and between parents/guardians, students, and staff.* Facilitate the design and utilization of various forms of formal and informal communication with all school stakeholders.* Understand the importance of clear expectations, structures, rules, and procedures for students and staff.* Familiarize himself/herself with state and federal laws, and district and board policies,
