Certified Sterile Processing Technician cleans, disinfects and
sterilizes all instruments and equipment for surgical procedures
and patient care. The Certified SPD Technician performs all daily
biological and sterile supply testing and maintains logs for each.
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician functions throughout
facility to organize and direct equipment needs to units. The
Certified SPD Technician assists clinical patient operations as
needed with endoscopy procedures and clinics. The Certified SPD
Technician Stocks and orders supplies for units as directed. The
SPD tech will be responsible for understanding and being fully
involved in completion of competencies based on AVH policies, AORN,
AAMI, IAHCMM and SGNA standards that are used as guidelines for SPD
Practices. The Certified SPD Technician will be an active member of
the entire department, with the ability to help in roles outside of
surgically specific job duties if needed. The Certified SPD
Technician will work collaboratively with others within the
department to ensure an efficient, professional and respectful
environment. The Certified SPD Technician will work with other
departments as well, in regards to patient safety and communication
Primary Scope of Responsibilities: Cleans, disinfects and
sterilizes equipment and sterile supplies according to hospital
policy and central processing standards. Correctly operates steam
sterilizers, Steris, ultrasonic cleaner, scope processors and
washer/sterilizer. Daily correctly wraps and labels sterile
supplies per procedure. Discards any outdated patient chargeable
supplies on a monthly basis. Restocks exchange carts for clinical
units as directed, utilizing stock lists. Cleans, stores and
delivers equipment as needed to clinical units. Communicates with
staff, supervisor and Biomed regarding equipment availability and
repair needs. Sterilizes and prepares equipment for satellite
facilities and or physicians' offices as directed by supervisor.
Monitors Quality Assurance indicators as defined by supervisor.
Daily maintains all Proof of Sterility logs for the steam
sterilizer and Evotech per departmental procedure. Documents
biological log for steam sterilizer per departmental procedure on a
daily basis. Assess all loads for indicators of successful
sterilization cycle. Strive to achieve certification within six
months of hire date. Assists clinical staff during scheduled
endoscopy procedure days and outpatient clinic days to promote
efficient case turnover and equipment preparation. Fully stocks all
clinical units on a daily basis by collaborating with materials
department staff and unit staff. Performs general clerical duties
for department. The Certified SPD Technician will be responsible
for working on Policies and Procedures, Preference Cards and other
needed projects as assigned by the Lead SPD Tech, Director or
Perioperative Charge Nurse for the department when not engaged in
cases. The Certified SPD Technician will responsibly document
Charges in both the EMR as well as when Pulling /Taking supplies
for cases through Pyxis. The Certified SPD Technician will show
competency with all equipment, systems or procedures that are
performed within the Perioperative Services Department. The
Certified SPD Technician will show competency with all equipment,

Services Department. The Certified SPD Technician will be dressed
in AVH Scrubs at the assigned start of the shift, ready to perform
their job duties. The Certified SPD Technician will communicate
clearly with the Lead SPD Tech, Charge Nurse, Director and other
staff in regards to plans for procedures, patient flow and personal
needs. Minimum Qualifications & Requirements: Sterile Processing

required Central Processing certification within eighteen (18)
months of hire Benefits & Compensation: Hire-in rates of pay are
based upon the relevance of years of experience, education and
